The Future of Development Policies and Changing Priorities: Africa

Contractor: UNDP and Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Participants: representatives of ministries, ambassadors, experts involved in international development, students in higher education.

Conference theme: The Africa conference was another high-level event with the principal purpose of awareness raising on the most current trends and issues relating to international development. As a new generation donor, Hungary has its role to sensitize its society about the needs for development cooperation and ways and means for doing so. This one-day event offered an overview of the development policy of the European Union, in particular from the perspective of Africa. Representatives of various African states presented their view about the future of Africa, and the effectiveness of development aid in general. Representatives of some EU member states highlighted the relevant country strategies regarding Africa. The World Bank’s recently elaborated Africa Strategy was also presented. The conference was well attended and received by the approximately 200 participating students, representatives of ministries, experts involved in international development.
